樹在我們生活中無所不在，不僅僅是自然界的守衛者、使者、滋養萬物的搖籃，也是城市裡的景觀基礎建設。當公民意識延展到環境生態時，生活在同一個空間的我們，究竟如何理解行道樹與生活空間的開放關係。已習慣生活在都會叢林中的我們，不知道是否曾經留意到公園綠地旁的商業大樓、捷運車站、學校或高樓住宅，時不時聽到「砰!」聲響而不曉得來自何方；當我們在路邊撿到掉下來的禽鳥時，該怎麼辦？鳥兒們是不是經常遭遇玻璃撞擊的隱形危機？英國藝術家 Celyn Bricker 的環境藝術創作中呼應了珊瑚白化、熱帶雨林消失到鳥類窗殺事件，藝術在生態議題中扮演角色，可否帶給我們多重省思與積極性解決之道。納入動物、鳥類、花草樹木作為我們的鄰居、朋友或家人，未來的城區建設與景觀紋理會比過往更加精彩豐富。
Trees are everywhere in our lives, not only as guardians and messengers of nature and the cradle of nourishment but also as the landscape infrastructure in cities. When civic consciousness extends to the environment and ecology, how do we, who live in the same space, understand the open relationship between street trees and living space? For those of us who are used to living in the urban jungle, have we ever noticed the “bang!” sound within commercial buildings, MRT stations, schools next to green parks. What should we do when we pick up a bird that has fallen from the roadside? Do birds often encounter the invisible crisis of glass hitting them? British artist Celyn Bricker brings the artistic practices on environmental issues to echo coral bleaching, the deforestation of tropical rainforests, the bird collisions, and whether the role of art in ecological issues can bring us multiple reflections and positive solutions. By including animals, birds, flowers, and trees as our neighbors, friends, and family, the future of urban development and landscape texture will be even more exciting than ever before.

I am a strategic urban designer with a focus on green infrastructure and I lead the Nature-based Solutions Mission at Dark Matter Labs. My baby is TreesAI, an open source platform, enabling city actors to collectively value and invest in urban nature, co-developed in tandem with a brilliant team! My focus is to provide the infrastructure components for radical collective action to regenerate, enhance and scale natural or modified ecosystems for thriving human and non-human wellbeing (eg. from regulatory systems, inclusive governance, asset management tools) looking to support multiple landscapes.

我要介紹的主題是《看不見的玻璃陷阱—野鳥窗殺》，窗殺經常發生在你我生活周邊，可能是公寓、大樓、餐廳、圖書館，甚至公車候車亭等。近年來建築越來越喜歡使用大面積玻璃，全世界的人類似乎愛上了玻璃這個神奇的材料，透明特性讓裡面的人可以看得更遠更廣、鏡像效應讓外面的人覺得建築融入了天空與自然之間，但野鳥看不見玻璃的存在，於是乎撞上了玻璃，許多鳥喪失了生命。
My topic is “The invisible glass trap — bird window collision.” Window collisions happen everywhere, could be an apartment, a high rise, a restaurant, a library, even a bus shelter, etc. It seems human worldwide fall in love with the magic material — GLASS in recent years. More and more glass were installed on buildings. Its clear performance is allowed people inside to see farther and winder; its reflective effect is let people outside to fell the building integrating into the sky and nature. But wild birds cannot see the existence of the glass and hit on it, many of them died.

Artist Celyn Bricker will introduce one of the current projects of CELU Studio, which is around the issue of bird collisions with glass. It is estimated that up to a billion birds die each year in collisions with glass structures in the US; research into the issue in China was this year co-initiated by CELU Studio, along with Duke Kunshan and the organisation CYCAN. Celyn will introduce the way in which art can be used to both raise awareness of this issue as well as present a possible solution, which could be integrated into both existing and new urban infrastructure.
